Range Test VS Tracker

I’ve now flashed several nodes with meshtastic and want to figure out how they performe where I am.

I noticed there is a range test plugin and there is also the tracker role.

I’m not quite sure on how to use that range test plugin. Which node needs to be configured how? And which node would stay in the balcony vs. go into my backpack?

If you have apple devices what I do is leave your node at home connected to your iPad / Mac and then setup the node connected to your phone to send GPS data via smart position. Clear the position log for that node on both clients and then go on your range test. When you get back you can compare the number of packets sent in the position log on the phone to the number of packets received on the node at home.

You can import the position log into google earth easily as well for comparison.

That seems easy enough.
So no range test plugin needed? Just “proper” gps setup and comparing position logs. I like that method.
