Exciting new TTGO board prototype!

No idea. I’ll ask ttgo.

“How do you imagine the antennas to be placed? Can they be stacked or do they need to be on separate sides?” Bumping for my question.

Also is it micro USB or USB-C?

You would want the antennas not stacked, but they are stickers and you can put them wherever. Someone who knows RF better than me probably has better ideas.

It is USB-C.

I just watched the video again and can see that one antenna is slim. I had assumed they were both square, roughly the size of the screen. In this case, they can be side by side I guess.

USB-C, great, this could be the device I order.

There are two antennas, almost the same size. This is the shorter and wider of the two.

Hope this picture helps.

I love the Measure app on the iPhone!

Can you take more photos like this of all the parts of the components? X, Y, and Z profiles would help my case design effort.

The epaper display is extremely thin and folds back onto the back of the PCB. You can find specs for that online. It’s very common. When folded back, it’s held on with double sided sticky tape. I’m not sure if that’s the final configuration. If it is, it’ll be a little how-you-doing.

The white 5 pin connector on the right side is for development and won’t’ be populated.

On the top edge of the PCB are two buttons mounted on the underside. You can just see them poking out.

Is that it ?

Found on this Thingiverse page .

My proposal for the name of this board is: LilyGO T-Echo

  1. it sounds good, and
  2. it describes the nature of the device to relay LoRa and BLE data back and forth,
  3. use case agnostic.

By George, I think you found it!

Is there any update on the availability to purchase these e-ink boards?

As we will eventually need these things in durable cases, pinouts for connection to external switches for essential button-pushes is important.
Some of this can be done by adding GPIOs in code, but the AXP192 power controller doesn’t seem to be accessible, either by code or pinout. A Power On by default would also save climbing towers, etc. after flat batteries…

Perhaps Geeksville could communicate the relevant part of this to TTGO?**

heh! For this prototype, I didn’t have an opportunity to give ttgo any advance feedback. It literally just showed up in my mailbox one day . But after playing with it I gave them a list similar what you mentioned (and some other ideas). I received an email from them a couple of days ago and I gather they are making good progress on the ‘final’ board but I don’t know anything more about timing beyond that.

So rad. @scottbridges I’ll pick up a couple when they appear and figure out shipping to you if you’re still game. Easy day.

@nhawks Thanks much! I really am surprised LilyGo doesn’t have a warehouse/distributor in the U.S… But, it looks like I’ll get to visit Mom in the States for Christmas. I should have ordered stuff, but I didn’t know if the travel would actually happen. Based on the media, I’m not really sure I want to visit right now. (We have no COVID in Haiti (and no masks, social distancing or much in the way of hospitals)).

Any news on this topic? Is this board still in progress? I am struggeling wether to wait or to buy some T-Beams…

Does anyone knows of an expected release date for this board?

Very excited for some large e-ink displays! Reminds me of the wrist mounted Garmin Foretrex GPS (Would love to wrist mount an e-ink lora device)

I recently received a near final version of this board from ttgo. I assume they are close to shipping it. I’ll ask.

Is it true that we have determined that this new Lora ‘concentrator’ won’t work with Meshtastic? They say i it will work the T-beam, but that could be in a mode that is not specifically for Meshtastic. I’ve tried looking for the new hardware mentioned in this thread a few times… and my eyes keep trying to tell me that this ‘concentrator’ is the same board… but I do not think that is the case. The layout looks very different.

The idea of a concentrator that would work with Meshtastic on a Pi node sounds cool though…
