Newbie question: I live in the country about 12 miles from town. That 12 mile is mostly (10 miles) over water. Aliexpress offers a 5 element 915 Mhz Yagi antenna with 9 db gain, With that antenna and a 1262 device can I expect connections with good reliability ?

If you have reasonable line of sight and then stock antennas might work fine for you. If the signal needs to penetrate trees or other vegetation then you will benefit from a yagi.
