(Solved): Lilygo 2.1_1.6 TCXO doesn't work anymore on 2.2.24 firmware

Hi all,

With the Lilygo 2.1_1.6 TCXO, new firmware 2.2.24 doesn’t work anymore. When flashing with CLI (full install or update), the error “Critical Fault #3” is back.

This error occured before the firmware was specially adapted to the TCXO variant of this node.
The firmware 2.2.22 and 2.2.23 worked perfectly (firmware-tlora-v2-1-1_6-tcxo-2.2…)

Since 2.2.24, Critical Fault #3 is displayed again on the node’s screen either when rebooting or setting the radio zone to EU_868 (it’s a 868 Mhz node, no error on that).
I tried too the 2.3.1 firmware already compiled, and tried to compile 2.3.1 myself, Critical Fault #3 each time.

If i flash the 2.2.23 again, the node works.

Does any one have an idea, or is it a bug ?

(I have no idea, just suggesting a step)

Is there any additional logging you can provide? Not sure if the module has some JTAG connection points. If it does and you have another microcontroller around that can connect to it, search online for JTAG debugging + name of the chip you have.
Just logging what happens and maybe getting a call stack once it fails might help any developer helping here. I.e. make it more likely/easier to get a firmware update.

Best of luck. (Please remember I’m trying to be helpful but I’m fully new here and NOT an authority on anything) :grinning:

Looks like in an unrelated firmware change, the required pin write got accidentally removed. I’ve opened a new PR that should fix it (don’t have the hardware myself).

Thank you, GUVWAF and TerryFrench, to have take some time to study the problem and answer it.

I better understand the reason now.

Have a nice week !

I confirm that the all new version of the firmware i just compiled today, works perfectly on the Lilygo Lora32 V2.1_1.6_TCXO.

Many thanks for this really quick answer and resolution of the problem.
Kudos to all the volunteer of the project, you do a great job for the community, really.

Have an excellent week !
