Meshtastic iOS iPhone and iPad App Beta Testing Available

Thank you for the link. I appreciate it.

Iā€™ve been using this for a week or two, really loving it! Thanks Garth!

I suppose thatā€™s the indicator showing you that youā€™re ā€œtestingā€ this app (installed it via TestFlight  ) other apps I installed via TestFlight show the same yellow dot next to the name.

This color potentially has something to do with a level of maturity of the app
(Alpha/Beta/almost finished/ā€¦)

Ya I thought as much. Wasnā€™t sure, hence the post.

Just shows yellow to indicate it was installed through TestFlight and not the App Store.

Hello garth,
I have recently started using Meshtastic and have the iOS app installed, v1.44. However, when i send a message and press the blue button, nothing happens on the screen and does not refresh the message board. It does send the message and i receive it on the web client. Same thing happens when sending message from web client. The web client functions properly, but the iOS app does not refresh and i have to back out of the message to see the new message.

Which device and firmware version?

Hi @garth, thanks for this really excellent effort - I am using your iOS app in a network with 1 t-echo and 2 rak4630. All now running device version 1.2.53. Iā€™ve noticed the same as @silencer25321 but only when the iOS device is connected to a rak4630, when connected to the t-echo it worked as expected. Sometimes it requires several (dis)connection tries to get the device ā€œproperly connectedā€.

Iā€™ve also been trying to make use of the new option to use mbtiles maps. However converting a 700 MB .mrsid file to .mbtile took about 8 hours and ended up in a 13 GB file, even with compression enabled during conversion in gdal_translate. To my surprise the meshtastic iOS app was able to load even this large file and is displaying it correctly!
However it takes an inordinate amount of space - is there any chance the app could accept .gmap, or even better .mrsid files? This is the standard for our government mapping agency free large format 1:50k maps here in Norway. I found some iOS resources here in case thats something that can be considered: MrSID iOS SDK.

Being able to add these topofiles really is a game-changer compared to apple maps or OSM.

All of those services have costs that we donā€™t have any way to manage currently. MBTiles are the smallest format supported natively by mapkit which is why it was chosen, I donā€™t want to lose access to all the map work apple is paying for and those other formats would require managing and paying for maps completely.

You can get various mbtiles maps here: osm-vector-mbtiles directory listing
They are quite big because they cover whole continents.
There are .mbtiles available for specific countries, the older ones (2017) are free, you just need to register with a throwaway email: Planet OpenStreetMap Tiles, GeoData and OpenData Maps | MapTiler Data

Hi garth, sorry for the delayed response.

Device: iPhone 13 Pro Max (15.2.1)
Tbeam - FW 1.2.45

I have also tried 1.2.52, 1.2.53, and 1.2.50.

I also noticed this issue on the ios testflight app. I just setup 2 T-Beam devices yesterday and they are running 1.2.53 ā€¦ On one of the T-Beam devices it doesnā€™t report the firmware version in the app even though Iā€™ve loaded the firmware twice, I canā€™t recall if the issue was on one of the devices or both of them. Firmware reports fine on the OLED and in the WebApp when I enable WiFi so it would seem more of an issue with the App being able to report that information. Whether or not this has anything to do with the messaging I have no idea.

I would delete and re-install the app, sounds like a corrupt database.

Thank You.

Done!

Iā€™ll test later and let you know how it goes.

@YOOO I have added Belgium install instructions are here iOS application development | Meshtastic

Hey guys,

Is there a way to add a name to the different devices? And is there a way to change the radios to Long and Short etc with the App? If not, how would you do these things?

I have latest firmware on radios and App.

Thank you!

Deleting and ReInstalling the App temporarily fixed both problems, messages not appearing to send as well as the FW version being reported, however, the issue continues to come back. Iā€™ve had to reinstall multiple times over the last few days so that messaging would work as expected.

The first node you connect the app to becomes the appā€™s ā€œfavouriteā€, and any other node from then on will present the issues you describe. I get around the issue at the moment by restricting each iDevice to a single node
