How to build the meshtastic firmware on my own (on linux)?

Hello,

I read a lot in this forum, but I did not find a guide to compile the firmware on my own.
Perhaps it’s so easy that there is no document about it ?

I am wondering if i can checkout the code from the git repository,
perhaps modify the code and cross compile it on a x86_64 linux box for esp32 ?

Is there any guide how to do that ?
