Heltec V3 Bluetooth issues

Hi all,
I’m fairly new to Meshtastic. I have two Tbeams that were very easy to set up and flash. I Just got a Heltec V3 and I have a couple issues going on.

  1. It’s trying to connect WiFi not BT once powered up. How do I get it to connect to BT? It does not show up on the app.
  2. The node won’t show up once connected to the computer to flash firmware. Might be the cable. Got a data cable on the way so I’ll try that.

You mean that it saying something like ‘connecting to wifi’ on device screen when you power up? (dont remember the exact wording) That sounds like it’s the default heltec ‘firmware’. The device comes pre-flashed with a small test program (well mine did) - the heltec doesnt come with MestTastic installed.
(which is why it not showing in the App yet)

Maybe you need to install the serial driver on computer for USB-serial to work

Yeah it tries connecting to a network when first turned on. Ok that makes sense now! I’ll give that a go. Hopefully flashing the firmware addresses my button issue too. The big button currently turns off the screen.

git it to work! Needed to run a Heltec driver for the computer to recognize the device. Thanks for the help!

Grad it worked.

Was it something to us with WinUSB and Zadig? I remember having to do something with that - I think as documented in a Youtube video, but to be honest not sure it was the heltec, as didn’t find in docs, so though it might of been for something else. (been playing with some RP2040 devices)

I had to use a CP210x VCP installer for the driver.

For me, it seemed to work fine as only BT or WiFi were turn on, not both at the same time.
