--dest doesn't seem to be working

Running WIndows 10, meshtastic version 2.2.19, T-beam Firmware 2.2.16.1c6acfd, Python ver 3.12.1

When i run the command

meshtastic --port com5 --dest !xxxxxxxx --setalt xxx–setlon -xx.xxxx --setlat xx.xxxx

It actually writes the values to the device connected to com5 instead of the remote node. This happens from multiple OS (Mac, Linux and Windows) on different devices on the comm port.

So what am i doing wrong?

You can’t set a position on a remote node

So how do I set the alt, lat and lon of a remote device? I’ve tried toggling the “fixed position” inside the Position tab in the app. I’ve tried toggling that without success.

You have to connect directly to the node.

Garth/Community,

Is this something the project would be interested in implementing in the future? If so, has anyone tried making this work or have any suggestions for a starting place?

Thank you all for the hard work that has gone in to making this awesome plaform possible.

Best,
William

No, it is intentionally blocked for security, we don’t want nodes setting each other’s position.
