We’ve updated our FAQ/Guidelines to add a section on solicitation.
If I am not wrong, this is in direct response to the fact that I received some hardware from forum members here and you don’t like it.
While I strongly agree that financing and crowdfunding should not be allowed here, giving away hardware is completely fine. If someone has any hardware they don’t use and are willing to part with it, I don’t see the problem. Someone else can breathe life into them. At the very least, it reduces e-waste.
Besides, there might be new members in the future who want to contribute but really can’t afford to buy a device.
I would like to know the forum’s opinion on this.
It’s been a topic for a while around here to avoid solicitation on this group.
If someone wants to elect give away hardware on their own free will, that’s fine. “I have xyz, does anyone want it?” is acceptable.
This change in our rules clarifies that this is not a forum to solicit goods or services.
