Thurston County, WA

Hi! I’m relatively new to Meshtastic, and I’m wondering if there are any users in the Thurston County, WA area. I’m just outside of Olympia myself, and haven’t been able to connect with anyone yet.

I will be there in august and will be setting up several nodes in the area.

Just started, I’m in Yelm, still assembling my mesh, got one running, just burned one trying to install a GPS. I know 2 other people in Yelm. Good luck.

I’ve got 4 nodes near the racetrack. Expanding to 10 here soon.

Request for help. I have two Heltec V3’s. I’ve upgraded the antennas from the stubby ones that are included with the board, but I am still having range issues. The two devices won’t communicate with each other more than 500ft, even over very flat terrain.

I haven’t done any modifications or soldering, just assembled the boards with the new antennas and batteries, and put them into some 3D-printed cases that I bought off of Etsy.

Has anyone else used this device and had this problem. Most importantly, if you have were you able to troubleshoot it? Sorry if this is a stupidly basic question… I’m very new to Meshtastic.

Did you ever get this figured out? I had a similar issue, I got a nice outdoor antenna and couldn’t hit the radio farther than a couple of blocks away. After some trouble shotting with my VNA I discovered the difference between SMA and RP-SMA connectors. Bascially I didn’t have a center pin on the connector to the antenna so there was no connection. I got and SMA connector (with the center pin) and it’s been working great ever since.

I still haven’t got this figured out. The center pin looks like it’s on my board, and the cable connecting is female to connect into. If you’re talking about the antenna itself, my antenna has a center pin, and the other end of the little cable accepts the pin. I’ve included pictures since I’m so new I still don’t really know what I’m talking about. Apologies for the picture quality… Best I could get off something so small with my cell phone.

Where are you located? I’m in northeast Olympia (near Tolmie State Park). I have a VNA tester if you want to test. I can’t tell from the photo of the antenna, but I assume that pin is long enough. This is what mine looks like.

Anyway, you’re welcome to come over and we can play around and see if we can figure it out.

I’m in Northeast Oly also, in the South Bay area. I’d love to be about to figure this out. Is there a PM feature on this site so we can figure out when to meet?

I’m not aware of a DM feature. Are you on Facebook? If you are contact me there: Jay DeBoer

With that picture. It sounds like you are really close to me, we should be able to hit each other unless there are some serious obstructions between us. - Jay
