If using in a tracker use case I might want to disable the GPS in the tracked unit, only turning it on when it receives a ‘where are you’ message from the tracking unit.
Does this functionality to remotely toggle GPS using messages exist?

It sounds like a cool feature idea. Consider posting it as an enhancement request:

Maybe not as graceful as sending a single message, but I think you can do this right now by setting up an admin channel on tracker and tracked ( Remote Node Administration | Meshtastic ) and using your client’s interface to turn the tracked gps on or off.
