RAK Wisblock 4631?

New hobby for me so excuse any noob comments. Thanks in advance.

I have a few Heltec V3’s and a few RAK WisBlock 4631 kits that I ordered from Rokland. If I set the heltec v3 unit in my upstairs window I see nodes about 2-3 miles away. Using the same exact antenna and location on the WisBlock I do not see any of them. I have ran this very basic test on 2 different WisBlocks with the same results. As far as receiving messages I have been successful getting messages to both devices from the same distance out. Why does the WisBlock not “see” the same as the Heltec V3?

The longest contact I have got on a wisblock is 46 kilometers, using a quality antenna with a ground plane, if you were using the stock antenna that came with the kit… its garbage, I suggest only a dipole antenna if using it with a plastic case (or no case)

I am using a Muzi Works whip antenna on both devices. So is it to be expected that the WisBlock will not get the same range as a Heltec V3?

no, with the same antenna the range should be near identical due to the same transceiver being used, is the antenna connector properly attached to the main board?

Yes. Like I said I have 2 WisBlock devices and they both do the same. They are both connected firmly at the board.

Are you using the newest firmware? (2.5.5) I’m running into the same problem where I wasn’t before.

there was a problem like that, some time ago, with some older firmware version …
but at the moment my rak devices have about the same range as before the update to 2.5.4

dont know if a v3 has greater range dont use those much
