Offline maps on android

Hi all

When trying to download offline maps on android i select a region and it downloads. Problem is when i zoom in and am offline the map doesnt get any more detail. It appears i have to zoom in and snap shot at close zoom too. This is really time consuming if you want to cover even 10 square miles at high resolution.

Is their a more efficient way to do this? Also is it possible to just download a high resolution map and side load it into meshtastic. Say one of the maps it already uses. I have to help a group get their phones setup where we will be in a area with no cell service. I would like to come up with the simplest process to get their offline maps up and running. Any suggestions thoughts welcome.

Are offline maps available for android through the Meshtastic app?!

This is one of my Cheif complaints on iOS, not having access to maps when off grid.

Listening :ear: in…

Hmm, I’ve not seen the option on Android either.

It does have a cache, and saves recently viewed maps, so they continue to work offline, but it just saving the specific scale, not further in/out.
… you do need to drag back and forth, and zoom to various scales to proactively cache.

Doesnt work with the default map but if you pick the layers icon some of the maps you can switch to will offer an offline ability. It will show a green download arrow after selecting the map type.

Oh, ok totally missed that.
Odd that it not for the default osm layer, would think most amenable to caching.

Having not used it cant help withthe original question
