Mah vs A - Batteries

When selecting a battery for a T-Beam v1.1 in the 18650 or the 21700 size, both these batteries are have a mAh rating, and a A rating. ie for an 18650 it maybe is 3500mAh 8A. Or for a 21700 it might be 5000mAh 9.8A, or 5000mAh 25A.

For the PURPOSES OF MESTASTIC is the mAh value more important, or is the A value more important, or is it more desirable to have BOTH at the highest you can get for longevity in the Meshtastic use scenario?

For the purposes of these Meshtastic radios the mAh value matters more. mAh is milliamp-hours, which describes the capacity of the battery. The other value mentioned in your post, A, is amps, which is how much current the battery can supply at once. The radios used in Meshtastic all require less than 1 amp, so that requirement is easily met by every 18650 you’ll find for sale.

Thank you very much! That’s what I needed to know for sure! So the only time you really need high Amps is for high drain devices right? Like camera flash units and such? Whereas Meshtastic is always very low drain and the higher the mAh the longer it will last right?

Glad to help. That’s exactly right, a high powered lighting unit or an e-bike or a power tool would need batteries that could supply a lot of current.
