I have noticed the number of people using the Heltec v3. So, I was shopping for them on eBay and it seems like at least on eBay there are 2 versions a 433 MHz model and one that says it covers 863 - 928 MHz. Does the later model actually work on the 915MHz band in the US? I think I saw 3 versions on the official Heltec website. Thanks for any advice.

Im in GB (urgh brexit… but EU regulations). The Heltec Lora32 box has 863-928MHz, so this model should work fine on 915MHz in USA.
