Functioning admin channel via android / iOS app ?
Aim: change settings on inaccessible “remote node” using the mesh
Technique: use the “admin” channel in the mesh to change the settings
GUI and software: I want to use Android or iOS app to perform the settings changes.
Status: I have set up a channel called “admin” with the same key in the “remote note” admin channel. I have the same “admin” channel with same key set up in several “local nodes” that I may wish to use to change the settings of the “remote node” using the mesh. I did this using the QR code representing the channels of the remote node and scanned it in the Android app of the local nodes. All the nodes have the same set of channels, and these include one called “admin”. I hope this is clear… sorry if I am being overly verbose.
Problem: I am looking at the remote administration options here:

and asking myself: if I have set up an admin channel that is set up (same key) in several nodes,
do I need to use the command line to administer the remote node as is done on that website?
Question: how does one change settings of a “remote node” using a “local node” via the “admin” channel, using solely by the Android Meshtastic app (or iOS).

Apparently in iOS there is a “configure” tab if things are set up right, that allows you to set the remote node’s settings… not sure about Android

This works extremely easily even on Android. When the admin channel has been set up all you have to do is go to the node list. Then long-press the node whose settings you with to change. The long press shown the menu “radio configuration”. This radio configuration will be available via the mesh and you can set the radio as you wish. If the node you chose does NOT have the admin channel set up then the radio configuration option will still show but nothing happens when you press the radio configuration option and select a radio configuration option - there will be no connection. Very easy indeed. Quite amazing really.

:tired_face:I thought it could only be done through CLI . How can we ensure security in this way?

One just needs to know the key to set up the channel in both nodes.

If anyone in the group can set others’ parameters, it will be a disaster.

But my admin channel is known only to me. So I can administer my remote nodes. The only proviso is the name must be “admin” but the key is yours to chose and share or not.
