Channels macro vs micro for Repeaters

I’ve come to understand that in Meshtastic a channel is a combination of radio frequency, speeding factor, channel name, and an encryption key (and more?).

Would it be possible for a repeater node to repeat any packets that contain a Meshtastic header for a set frequency?

Eventually that is the intent (and the way things are designed). But currently nodes ignore all but one channel.
