Cannot connect to USB/crashing on firmware drop

Hello everyone!

I received a Lilygo T-Echo today and tried to set it up following the instructions under the getting started guide.

The drag and drop firmware flashing seemed like an amazingly easy step — so far I have failed miserably! I am stuck at connecting the T-Echo using a USB cable.

When I connect the T-Echo to my computer (Manjaro Linux) it shows up as a drive but when I try to copy the firmware over, it fails to transfer and the T-Echo disconnects. The T-Echo shows up using “Lsusb”. It just keeps disconnecting when I drag and drop files. I tried using my android phone to copy the firmware across and this fails. I tried doing this on my mac and this fails. I had a look at Liliygo’s video set up and my device’s screen and lights look nothing like those in the video after they copy the files over so I get the impression that they have not copied over or it has not flashed properly.

I should mention that I have tried 3 different USB-C leads including the one that came with the T-Echo.

So I thought that I would connect the T-Echo to the Meshtastic app using bluetooth. Now the T-Echo does show up in the app, but when I try to pair it on the app I need to enter a pin — reading through the guide it states that if it is set to “FIXED_PIN” then the default will be “123456”. This does not work. I can only surmise that it is set to “RANDOM_PIN”. I am not really sure what that pin would be. I would guess that it should show up on the screen, but that has not changed from the meshtastic logo and mestastic.org text since I took it out of the box — so I have failed to connect it via bluetooth as well!

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

I know this is an old thread, but I am having the same issue. Have you been able to figure it out?

Nevermind. I dunno how, but it somehow took after enough tries. I wonder if it reboots immediately after the file is copied and the OS thinks it didn’t finish.
