Have you seen the discussion at RAK 4631 Solar Repeater - #34 by kilroy ? You will there find my solution to this problem. It is just a small board with its own li-ion charger IC and a voltage supervisor plus a mosfet to switch the power to the RAK baseboard. It also preserves correct voltage readings.
