This could be one of the options - YARH.IO MKI Raspberry Pi 3B+ Hackable Linux Handheld
The build-in keyboard is this one from Aliexpress.
Thats a cool project. They provide the STI files for 3D printing and a link to all the hardware. They have a smaller project that uses a smaller keyboard too
Not gonna lie, I just squealed like a little girl. That is ADORABLE. It’s still a bit chunky for Meshtastic, but I think I have half the parts to build one within a 10 meter radius…
Also, I wondered if a RasPi Zero W could be used instead for lower power consumption, and came across this super cute little project: https://www.hackster.io/news/the-node-zero-terminal-v3-is-a-sleek-and-versatile-raspberry-pi-tablet-691d9d09b680
I like the idea of dual SX1262s for router nodes - specifically, being able to have a pair of yagi antennas pointed 180 degrees apart for ‘backbone’ long-haul connections. (so, perhaps more a ‘repeater’ than a ‘router’)
Another neat LoRa based keyboard-equipped messager project I came across: LoRa MSG | MSG Lab
dear all, I’m Ramin, the designer of the PocketPi. Very inspiring to see you guys discussing these options. The keyboard I used for the PocketPi is cited in my blog article (I’m only allowed to post two links here. I also used the M5Stack keyboard CardKB Mini Keyboard Programmable Unit (MEGA328P) | m5stack-store for a foldable computer and that little guy is also interesting: https://www.tindie.com/products/bobricius/mini-piqwerty-usb-keyboard/
Very cool project.
Any chance you could add a LoRa module, preferably one of the 1 watt options?
Can you send me a link to one that you would prefer?
From what I recall there is a preference for SPI devices, but the 1 watt modules are usually uart depending on the packaging.
I’m assuming you would have the best luck with a self contained module that just requires power and data lines.
I’m am not especially proficient in the hardware side so I hope others can chime in.
Something like this: Ebyte® LoRa 868MHz SX1276 SX1278 Wireless Transmitter and Receiver RF Module E32-868T30D 8000M Long Range 1W UART Transceiver rf Module Sale | USA Mobile - Banggood Mobile
Other versions of that would be desirable for different regions.
There is also a second generation LoRa radio chip and off the top of my head I don’t know if the linked one is the newer or older.
The CardKB is pretty cool, I refactored the M5Stack library to work with a generic OLED screen and arduino Microcontrollers/cardkb-textbuffer.ino at master · garthvh/Microcontrollers · GitHub I was thinking of trying to create a messaging plugin using the CardKB but have been short of time recently.
How to add support for Digital xtend radio,
I have many available, and thought of repressing them
Any advices
Looks great, just one note: each little adapter you add is about -3db loss
