3D Printed Cases etc

Work in Progress for the integrated antenna version.
This version will use the standard 18650 battery.
I’m going to see if I can integrate a little clip so that it can used with a 90 degree rotated sma connector as well as the mmcx connector.

updated design looks even better. Wow!

A request:
Please make the USB hole a square and not round, as it is not possible to plug in a normal micro-usb cable instead of the magnetic adapter.

I really like b8b8’s design, looks quite professional and a bit cyberpunky as well.

But in the meantime, I’ll like to share my design as well. It’s less fancy but is meant to be easier to print than most designs out there at least.

Key thing that other designs out there might want to consider is that mine allows for the use of both zipties or screws as mounting options. Zipties provides at least ease of construction, plus a little bit of tamper protection. Also you can add straps to mount it to your bag etc… might be something to consider adding to your design perhaps?

Also, mine is written in OpenSCAD so if you want to contribute any changes or pull request, I’ll be happy to accept. (E.g. support for other board revisions) Just don’t forget to add yourself to the credits.

Updated my test stand to accommodate a 25mm x 25mm GPS antenna.

So, this was buggin’ the snot out of me, until I threw my googlin’ hat on, and found…

In case anyone else wants to take that bulky SMA connector and flip it to an IPEX, so you can then use a pigtail for b8b8’s gorgeous case which… won’t cleanly allow the direct connected antenna otherwise.

I THINK this should work… Sure hope so, or else I just blew $10.

Watch out, I’m pretty sure the t-beams are SMA not RP-SMA

Well poop.

Guess I’m ordering this one too then.

Consider adding a waterproofing mechanism for the button pushers.

One option that might work is little orings molded into an oring holder that the pegs go through. Alternately, have a silicone rubber button strip printed that seals that area.

Interesting idea but that would also require two main body o-rings for the front and back panels, waterproofing the screen (maybe just epoxy on some acrylic), waterproofing around the magnetic USB cable, and coating the inside of the panels with epoxy since 3d printed materials aren’t inherently waterproof unless you are really careful with the settings. I may look at a waterproof case in the future but will probably require a complete redesign.
