SNR Test (like JS8-Call)

Amateur Radio User here (N5MKH). I run JS8-Call frequently. It is messaging software that works very similar to Meshtastic (but without the active mesh networking) over HF radio bands.

One of the tools in JS8-Call is the ability to ping the network (like Meshtastic) but get an SNR or “Signal to Noise Ratio” report back from stations that can hear you. Seeing and understanding what the signal strength is like at your destination stations or nodes would be very beneficial for growing and troubleshooting the Mesh Network on Meshtastic. It would allow people to test new antennas and locations for signal strength and clarity.

This is likely something that the radio is already capable of and could take very little development. Hope to see it in 2.6! Thank you!

I though we already have SN and RSSI in Meshtastic which is the data for the last hop, so the SNR data for the connection when there is no intermediate node hop, or have I totally misunderstood the question. So one just has to test using nodes one can directly reach. I have four antennae in the same location to test the different RSSI values when using different antennae (and found absolutely no difference BTW, the location being the main factor, not the antenna). I also found that I could get traceroutes and direct messages with confirmation at -12 dB with a well placed node, and opposed to the normal -22 or -26 dB.
