PTT with speech-to-text-to-speech

There have been a few requests in the forum to communicate audio with push-to-talk via Meshtastic.

You can hardly process audio with the inexpensive LoRa devices, but that wouldn’t be necessary either. Instead, you could use the integrated AI for speech recognition and speech synthesis in the apps for Android and iOS. This would also be compatible with normal text display on the OLED displays.

In the app, the speech recognition from the smartphone is used and the text is determined. Instead of audio, normal text is transmitted as before. In the recipient’s app, the text is read aloud using speech synthesis.

Anolog to push-to-talk, a button on the smartphone is enough to record and send without having to type for operation. The button on the device could also send an event to the smartphone or you could use the buttons on the headset, etc.

This already works on both phone apps, so can dictate to the device and have messages read to you via the ai assistant

Can you please explain how to configure the device and apps to use the push button to use PPT or direct speech the receives messages?

There is a mic on iOS on the keyboard for dictation, Siri will read the message notifications to you when they come in

Ok, the input works in the same way on Android via the icon on the keyboard. I was not aware of the transcription of notifications function. Many thanks for the tip.
