Firmwear 2.5 and direct message ticks - do both nodes need the same private channel with full PSK?

If I send a direct message from my 2.5 firmwear Node to another 2.5 firmwear node, does my node and the other node have to have in common, somewhere in their channel list in any position, the same private channel with full PSK (not so-called default PSK AQ==) in order for the tick mark acknowledgement to appear in the sending node app when the recipient node has received the message?

(Why ask: moving from 2.4 has resulted in reports here in Munich of no ticks in direct messages any more).

Update: it appears not to be required to have a full PSK private channel in common, both from further reports here in Munich and from the absence of any answers to this question.

…after all the protests about “we can’t do X because it would break compatibility with older firmware,” it seems that some folks decided breaking compatibility with older firmware was fine as long as it was THEIR idea.
