Strange repeating messages

I have a setup of three Heltec nodes.

  • A static one, set as a client, connected to Wi-Fi and acting as an MQTT gateway to LongSlow. This is configured using the web client. I don’t typically connect to it now, but have in the past with the username “cgib”.
  • A static battery powered one, set as a client, near to my house but outside. I do connect to this with a phone sometimes, and my username is cg3.
  • A mobile battery powered one, set as a client, that travels with me. This is connected to a phone nearly always, and my username is cg2.

I’m seeing a message “test 3 de pnl” come from me and others. I wasn’t even awake when the first one appeared from me.

Where are these messages coming from?

It’s really curious - another series of them. Nothing is connected to the node that has used the “cgib” name.

Does the node called “cgib” have JSON enabled?

Yes - I think that was default though.

Seems that someone on the LongSlow channel is using a feature to inject packets via JSON. That feature needs more validation (only one node should respond, not all). For now, you can disable JSON to prevent seeing packets coming from your node.
