The sx1276 and sx1278 are almost identical (in fact a lot of chinese mfgs swap them around) so either should be fine. Porting to a STM32 is probably fairly painless and if you wanted to do this I’m happy to help with questions and merge your changes back into the main branch.
Yes it is a nice chip (and almost completely already supported. We support the sx1262 which is essentially the same - just different frequency ranges). Adding support for a sx1268 would be just a couple of lines of code.

@anelito had a good idea. I’ve created a new “Hardware” subforum under “Development” because this thread (though super useful is getting pretty unmanageable). For new chips, boards etc please make a new post in the “Development / Hardware” category and then we’ll have a nice separate thread for each of those devices.
